San Raymundo, Guatemala
We arrived in Guatemala a little after 9PM on Thursday evening. After an hour long winding drive up the mountains, we arrived at a quaint 3 bedroom apartment in San Reymundo, Guatemala. This will be our home for the next 4 days. We were exhausted after our travels and went straight to bed. Little did we know that the dogs in town do not seem to ever sleep. They seem to have a sixth sense to know the exact minute we've finally fallen asleep and that's when they start barking! We awoke early on Friday morning around 5:30am (Thanks to the dogs and roosters). We luckily had freezing cold showers to wake us right up. We arrived at the school around 8am, met our translators, and went room to room and were introduced to all the classes. During the introductions, we got hugs from ALL the Kids. It was such a wonderful warm welcome. The school has pre-K through 4th grade. We split up and went from class to class teaching our pre-prepared Bible lessons. At the end of the school day around noon, we went back around to all the classrooms and they thanked us with more hugs and we each received big thank you signs and the women also got beautiful flower bouquets. This school is an extreme blessing to these children who live in extreme poverty. At this school, in addition to the normal lessons they would receive in public school, they also receive daily Bible lessons. In the afternoon we visited the mission hospital where visiting medical teams perform surgeries, dental work and eye care depending on the expertise of the teams. There is also a dormitory that will hold more than 100 people at a time. Next to the hospital is another school run by another missionary. Please continue to keep us all in your prayers.
